FAQ

What people usually ask

Short, honest answers. When something depends on the date or the booking channel, we say so and invite you to confirm.

Booking and payment

How do I check availability and price?

Message us on WhatsApp with your dates, accommodation type and number of travellers, and we will confirm availability, total rate and conditions. You can also see live prices and book on Hostelworld (opens in a new tab) or Booking.com (opens in a new tab). We do not publish rates on this site because they change by date and channel.

Do I book a bed or the whole room?

It depends on the option. In the shared dorms you book one bed for one person, and the room is shared with other travellers. In the private double you book the whole room, for one or two people. See the rooms.

We are a group: can we ask for several beds?

Yes. In the enquiry form, enter how many people you are and the message will ask for one bed per person (or several double rooms, two people maximum in each). Xantico will confirm what is available for your dates.

Which payment methods do you accept?

Please check accepted payment methods and the applicable conditions when you confirm your booking. Published payment information differs between platforms, so we prefer to confirm it with you directly.

What is the cancellation policy?

On Hostelworld the hostel states cancellation up to 3 days before arrival; late cancellations or no-shows are charged the first night. Other platforms may have different terms: check those of your booking, or ask us if you book direct.

Arrival and departure

What time are check-in and check-out?

Check-in 13:00–23:00 and check-out by 11:00, according to Hostelworld (Booking.com lists check-in until 00:00). If you arrive outside those hours, message us first to arrange your arrival.

Reception is 24 hours: can I check in any time?

Reception is open 24 hours, but check-in has its own hours. Arriving early or very late does not guarantee your bed is ready: let us know in advance and we will tell you what is possible.

How do I get here from the bus terminal?

According to the hostel’s directions, it is about a 15-minute walk from the Ipiales bus terminal, or you can take a city bus or taxi. We are at Carrera 6 #10-59, opposite the Colpatria building, near Parque 20 de Julio. Details in Getting here.

Where can I leave my bicycle or motorbike?

The hostel lists bicycle parking. If you travel by motorbike, message us before arriving to confirm whether there is space on your dates.

At the hostel

Is there hot water?

Yes. The showers have hot water, which you will appreciate in Ipiales’ cold climate.

What does a shared-dorm bed include?

Your bunk bed (each with its own charging point and light, per the hostel), a shared bathroom with hot water, Wi-Fi and access to the kitchen, lounge, games and courtyard. Booking.com lists bed linen and towels in the rooms, while Hostelworld lists towels for hire: confirm when booking.

Is there food or breakfast?

There is an equipped shared kitchen to cook your own food. There is also an on-site café serving breakfast and Colombian empanadas; breakfast is not included in the rate. Ask about the current menu and hours.

Is there laundry?

Yes, there is a laundry service. Ask reception about conditions and price.

Do you accept pets?

Only by prior arrangement. Message us before booking, tell us about your pet and we will confirm whether it is possible.

Are children allowed?

Booking.com and Hostelworld currently state that the property does not accept children. If you travel as a family, message us before booking.

Is it a party hostel?

No. Xantico is a calm house to rest between routes, with a courtyard, games and good conversation. Booking.com lists quiet hours from 20:00 to 08:00.

Your trip

What should I pack for Ipiales?

How do I get to Las Lajas Sanctuary?

By taxi (10 to 15 minutes from Ipiales) or by shared transport from the Ipiales bus terminal; the last stretch is on foot, about 1 km, according to laslajas.org (opens in a new tab). More in the Ipiales guide.

How do I cross into Ecuador?

The Rumichaca International Bridge is about 3 km from central Ipiales, according to the municipality. Requirements depend on your nationality and can change: always check Migración Colombia (opens in a new tab) and gob.ec (Ecuador) (opens in a new tab) before you travel.

Can you help me organise tours or transport?
